Hometown heroes: Former Kings Mountain standout Rusty Bumgardner adds two more softball Hall of Fame honors

GASTONIA – Local softball standout Rusty Bumgardner continues to receive honors.

A 1987 Kings Mountain High graduate who now lives in Gastonia, Bumgardner has been inducted into the fourth and fifth Hall of Fame of his career in recent months.

In September, he was a part of the inaugural World Sports League (WSL) Hall of Fame in Panama City Beach, Fla.

And in December, he was inducted into the Independent Sports Association (ISA) Hall of Fame in Reno, Nev.

Already a member of the Kings Mountain Sports Hall of Fame (2005), national United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Hall of Fame (2006) and N.C.

USSSA Hall of Fame (2012), Bumgardner also is a former Gazette Home Run Derby champion.
